Welcome to Northern Ireland

Welcome to Northern Ireland. One of the most beautiful pieces of land in the United Kingdom, sharing borders to the South and West with the Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland was created in 1921 by partition of Ireland. Whereas, the southern part became independent Irish state (ROI), Northern Ireland remained a part of the UK continued to be govern by British monarchy. Due to the controversy since its inception, Northern Ireland has been affected by violence for over three decades known as ‘troubles’, which claimed over 3000 lives and caused over 50,000 causalities.

The Good Friday Agreement was a major step in restoring the peace process in Northern Ireland that was enacted in 1998. Lord David Trimble, the First Minister of Northern Ireland played an instrumental role in the process and was subsequently awarded Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in 1998. Since then, Northern Ireland has been granted substantial powers form the central government and has a devolved government within the UK. The parliamentary matters of Northern Ireland are dealt in Stormont Parliamentary Building in Belfast.
